My name is Stephanie, and I am currently finishing my MA in TESOL at Teachers College, Columbia University. I am very interested in teaching elementary ESL students, in the public school setting. Within teaching, I am interested in building literacy, mathematic confidence, and nutrition. If I was not working in education, I would be working in the culinary field, either food journalism or restaurant management/promotion. I worked in the restaurant industry for 5 years, working in various restaurants from casual American to high end Mexican. I think my background in the hospitality industry truly increased my patience and empathy before working in the classroom.
I'm currently working toward my elementary certification, as well as my special education certification for grades K-8. In a few years, I would love to have an inclusive classroom of general education, ESL, and special education studies so that everyone can learn from each other.
Hi Stephanie, it's so interesting to know that you would be working in the culinary field if you were not in education. I'm interested in culinary art too. I've always wanted to open my own cafe' or restaurant. :D
